  • michael jentz, 67, bs ’76 agricultural mechanization, was a farmer who raised corn, beans, sugar beets and pigs. he was a member of the knights of columbus of lidgerwood, north dakota; a firefighter and chief financial officer for the mantador, north dakota, fire department; and a member of the mantador park board and mantador jaycees. he lived in mantador.
  • leonard olofson, 85, bs ’65 agricultural economics, was a farmer and later had a 25-year career with farmers home administration with stops in minnewaukan, linton and ashley, north dakota. he was an army veteran who lived in fargo,
  • alexander stoffel, 88, ms ’85 computer science, taught music and mathematics to high school students and computer science at the university level. he also was a lutheran minister for 20 years and a prolific writer, publishing under the names cj alexander and alex stoffel. he lived in green valley, arizona.
  • orville erickson, 93, bs ’53 general agriculture, worked for the standard oil co., first in fargo and then as the bulk agent in bismarck, north dakota. he was an army veteran and served in the national guard in korea. he lived in bismarck,
  • berdell funke, 93, honorary doctorate ’19 taught in the ndsu microbiology department from 1964 until his retirement in 1997. he co-wrote “microbiology: an introduction,” the bestselling microbiology textbook in the world. it is now in its 13th edition and has been translated into 12 languages. he lived in fargo.
  • paul johnson, 72, bs ’74 animal science, was the instructional supervisor in the department of veterinary and comparative anatomy, pharmacology and physiology, now known as integrative physiology and neuroscience, at washington state university’s school of veterinary medicine. he was a marine corps veteran who served in vietnam. he lived in moscow, idaho.
  • archie wanner, 62, bs ’80 agricultural mechanization, was a lifelong farmer and rancher. he served on the st. ann’s church council, morton county crop improvement board, hebron fire department’s board, glen ullin weighing association, and was active in the north dakota stockmen’s association. he lived in hebron, north dakota.
  • marlys (timm) legler, 94, bs ’48 home economics education, taught at new rockford high school and jamestown high school. she later farmed with her husband. she lived in jamestown, north dakota.
  • todd steffes, 55, bs ’89 crop and weed science, was an agronomist who later changed professions and became a respiratory therapist for more than 18 years. he was an army veteran who lived in amenia, north dakota.
  • donald strom, 85, ms ’67 educational administration, was a counselor and teacher for moorhead area schools for many years. he also coached youth soccer when it was first introduced in moorhead. he lived in moorhead.
